Willow

The tenth sacred tree is the willow with a forked twig used for magickal purposes as well as the bark and roots. The white willow of Europe is a large tree which grows wet ground -- swamps or near watercourses -- with silky, drooping leaves and grey bark. Its wood is light and soft.

Willow is the tree of water with a pro-water female aspect averse to control over water itself. It was cultivated for a variety of reasons, from its tough wood and the medicinal value of its bark and roots to its extremely wendable osiers which are excellent for use in hampers, baskets and furniture.

Salix alba

Willow is associated with the letter Saille of the Ogham alphabet. Willow corresponds to Group VIIIB? on the Periodic Table (the tenth column). This means that it relates to Synnecrotic Conflict, the eco-relation (-,-), and the vocabulary of the previous balance. Willow is also associated with palladium? and a developmental number of 46.

The magic associated with willow are based on spells that work with (as opposed to against or controlling) water:

  • death vision
  • cold
  • freeze
  • sense spirits

These magicks work with the female aspect, the moon, water and death.
