Sauroid Family of Languages

Saurian languages are usually based on hand signs, due the physical limitations of the lizard throat and mouth. It would be a mistake, however, to assume low intelligence or a limitation on the sophistication of a sauroid tongue. Draconic is the most powerful of all FaerieMUD languages.

The Sauroid family of languages includes:

  • Snake? -- used by lizards without the ability to make hand signs.
    • developmental level -- 6
  • Salamander? -- hands, but not much in the way of brains
    • developmental level -- 17
  • Low Wyrm? -- a trade-tongue or pidgin used by most of the social lizards to speak with races who are limited to vocalized speech.
    • developmental level -- 33
    • relatively low for a trade language, reflecting the limitations of saurian throats which make Common? difficult for lizards to master
  • Kobold? -- used by the lowest form of social lizard which can use hand signals and rudimentary spelling.
    • developmental level -- 48
  • Draken? -- used by lizardmen and Wyverns and other lizards who have retractile claws, but no flight (or insufficient intelligence to use the sophisticated inflections of the great dragons).
    • developmental level -- 76
    • roughly equivalent to English or Japanese
  • High Draconic? -- used by Dragons and other lizards (but only those who have both retractile claws and flight, combined with a very high intelligence).
    • developmental level -- 104
    • races which have languages of lower developmental level run a high risk learning draconic (they can be talked into almost anything by a dragon with full mastery of the tongue)
