Reed

The thirteenth sacred "tree" is the reed. Only unbroken reeds can be used for magical purposes. If they are not straight, they lose their magickal powers. Of course, reeds are actually a relative of the grasses, not an actual tree although its stems are woody. It grows beds along the shores of rivers and lakes or even in salt marshes.

A reed is the "tree" of mending.

Arundo donax?

Reeds are associated with the letter Pethboc of the Ogham alphabet. The reed corresponds to Group IIIA? on the Periodic Table (the thirteenth column). This means that it relates to Commensal Laudation, the eco-relation (+,0), and the vocabulary of the current balance. Reeds are also associated with aluminum and a developmental number of 13.

The magic associated with reeds is always mending magic:

  • repair spells
  • shatterproofing
  • cornucopia

These magicks are based on the mending which can be had at table. They derive from the manner in which the roots and rhizomes of reeds twine themselves together to hold the soils in which they grown from being washed away.
