Oak

The eighteenth sacred tree is the oak, with acorns used for magical purposes as well as twigs. It has green, round-lobed leaves and nuts which resemble little human heads wearing berets. These nuts, known as acorns, are edible in spite a persistent beliefs to the contrary. (Indeed, a primitive flour can be ground from these acorns.)

Oak is the tree of earth and air and of doors between worlds (as in the world of air and the world of earth, which it controls because its roots reach equally into the earth as its branches reach into the air).

Quercus robur

Oak is associated with the letter Duir of the Ogham alphabet. Oak corresponds to Group Zero on the Periodic Table (the eighteenth column). This means that it relates to Synnecrotic Conflict, the eco-relation (-,-), and the vocabulary of the current balance. Oak is also associated with radon? and a developmental number of 86.

The magicks associated with oak are gateways between worlds or between earth and air:

  • door spells
  • gate spells
  • shape earth or stone spells
  • spells which involve earth and air

These magicks are based on the oak door, which represents a gateway between worlds and between one level of existence and the next. Growth requires the kind of mutual loss sustained by the self and by its environment.
