The Mind

The mind is the cognitive part of the character object. It is responsible for sensory input, perception, learning, memory, reflexes and fine motor control, and communication. Mental proficiencies are called skills?.

The two parts of the statistic that represents a character's intellect are perspicacity and concentration. Perspicacity represents the character's overall mental prowess, and is decreased when the mind suffers psychic damage of some kind. Concentration is the measure of the character's ability to focus mental power to a given task, and is affected by use. A character's concentration can never exceed his perspicacity.

Perspicacity determines longest skein-length allowed in the queue the Fates maintain for each character. Concentration determines the number of skeins currently available to the (Fates}.

Quotes

MIND. A mysterious form of matter secreted by the brain. Its chief activity consists in the endeavor to ascertain its own nature, the futility of the attempt being due to the fact that it has nothing but itself to know itself with. — Ambrose Bierce

Finally, I wish to say that I find [my essay] pervading my views and understanding of everything. In a sense it has been my way to transcendental experience: to the discovery that matter, metaphorically speaking, is the creation of the spirit (the mode of existence of the observer in a domain of discourse), and that the spirit is the creation of the matter it creates. This is not a paradox, but it is the expression of our existence in a domain of cognition in which the content of cognition is cognition itself. — Humberto Maturana, Autopoiesis and Cognition
