Coming of Age
It is our intention to provide an instructional period for new players that models the childhood of their character, during which they do not have a true name?, and so can be resurrected easily, and are not bound by their oaths. This will allow a new player to learn the mechanics of the game, the nature of the world and his society, and afford him an opportunity to explore possible plans for his adult character.
When the child-character's family (caretakers, clan, whatever the relevant social structure is for the culture to which the character belongs) decides she is experienced enough to be considered an adult, the character undergoes a coming of age ritual (also defined in her Culture) which transforms the character into an adult. Part of this ceremony is the acquisition of a True Name, which binds the player's spirit to the character until it dies either of old age or "Irrevocable Death" (see Death).
