Body

The body is the flesh and bone (or scales and bone...or flesh and exoskeleton...whatever) body that is the outward physical part of the character. It is responsible for movement and location, the character's appearance, physical interaction with other objects, and physical abilities.

The two parts of the statistic that represents the character's physique are vitality and energy. Vitality is the measure of the overall health and fitness of the body, and is a developmental object. Energy is the measure of the ability of the character to focus her vitality towards a given physical task, and is a simple numeric property that describes the range of zero to the body's current vitality level. A character's energy can never exceed her vitality.

The character's physical statistic can can be affected by a number of things. The most common of these is exertion -- simple physical activity. When a character engages in physical activity, such as walking or opening a door, her energy is decreased by a proportionate amount. If the character engages in strenuous physical activity for a prolonged period, she may find herself without energy. At this point, she must rest to regain her energy, or risk damaging her body, which is reflected by a decreasing vitality.

Combat also can be the cause of reduction in the amount of both a character's energy and vitality. Damage of this nature can cause either or both of the statistics to drop, depending on the nature of the weapon, the technique of the person employing it, the effectiveness of the blow, armour, etc.

Other things which can affect vitality directly are physical injury, illness, poisoning, or other physical ailments.
