Aspen
The fifteenth sacred tree is the aspen with a heavy branch used for magical purposes. It is a type of poplar which only grows at high elevations. Groves of aspen are usually actually a single tree whose root system has put up multiple trunks. Aspens often have a symbiotic relationship with pines or other evergreens, protecting the young trees of these species after a fire and then subsiding into a much less dominant role once the larger tree surpass them.
The largest known living orgasm is a single aspen tree which appears to be a grove covering hundreds of acres. Its flattened leafstalks allow the aspen's broad leaves (which know for their fall coloration) to flutter in the lightest breeze.
Aspen is the tree of physical protection.
Populus tremula
Aspen is associated with the letter Eadha of the Ogham alphabet. Aspen corresponds to Group VA? on the Periodic Table (the fifteenth column). This means that it relates to Benign Warding, the eco-relation (0,+), and the vocabulary of the current balance. Aspen is also associated with antimony? and a developmental number of 51.
The magic associated with aspens provide shielding:
- protection spells
- armor spells
- deflect
- forest warning
- fortify
- hide path
- watchdog
These magicks are based on the warding effects of the shields (which were often made of aspen). Protection and warding are often strengthened by hidden connections much like the interconnecting roots of an aspen grove. And, like an aspen almost dormant below a pine forest, defenses often function best when they are hardly noticed.
